Mohamed ElShorbagy is the current World Champion (2017), World #1 (Oct 2018) and three-time Qatar Classic Champion (2013, 2015, 2017).
He retained his World No.1 spot for the eighth month in succession after the release of the October rankings.
After success in last year’s Qatar Classic and Hong Kong Open, he continued his fine form to the World Championship where he beat his younger brother Marwan in five games for the top honour, also his first world title.
At the 2018 Windy City Open final, it was the same scenario between the two brothers and this time Mohamed just needed three games to dispose of his brother.
This was followed by two victories in 100k events – the Canary Wharf Classic and the Grasshopper Cup. But then when he was expected to win his third British Open titles after success in 2015 and 2016, El Shorbagy was surprisingly beaten by Miguel Rodriguez of Colombia in the final.
Two weeks later, the Egyptian made the revenge as he ousted the South American in the opening round of the World Series Finals in Dubai where El Shorbaby laughed till the end with a 3-1 victory over Ali Farag in the final.
