R3: Marwan ElShorbagy 3-0 Mohamed Abouelghar

[9] Marwan ElShorbagy (Egy) 3-0 [7] Mohamed Abouelghar (Egy) 11-4, 11-8, 11-4 (30m)

Abou never in it

Not sure if the Bullet is still suffering from the injury that kept him away from the courts but his shoulder probably played a role in this match, where really, it was a festival Marwan….

If the World Junior Champ runner-up (twice!) played a bit better in the second, the suspense was not exactly killing us as the Controller Marwan was wait for it perfectly in control throughout.

First game 8m 11/4, 9m for the second game, 11/8 and same time 9m for the last game, 11/4.

Marwan flying away, just too good…

Marwan

Mohamed is a very good player, he plays at a very fast pace and likes to go short quickly, so I had to make sure I started really sharp and started better than I did two days ago. The same scenario could have happened, I had to make sure I controlled the rallies and contained him as much as I could with my length game, and I think I did that very well.

I think Mohamed played better in the second game, but I was vert happy with how I won that game. I stayed with him, I was very sharp today and was very happy with my movement and my hitting.

“To have Haitham Effat and Nick Matthew here is a perfect combination for me. Haitham has got so much experience as a coach and Nick has as a player. The combination works amazing for me, and I’m happy to have both of them here with me.

“I just want to focus on the rest of the day, I have some stretching to do and when tomorrow comes I will think about playing my brother, I don’t have to think about it today.
